The Foundation Pieces Of A Streamlined Wardrobe

Uncategorized Jun 25, 2025

You’ve probably heard that Steve Jobs wore the same thing every day.

But here’s the part people don’t always know…

He didn’t just chuck on any old black top, his stylist bought him sets in his best neutrals. Slightly varied, but all working together on him and with each other.

The fabrics were top quality. The fit was right. He looked sharp, without needing to think about it.

Because he was busy, and he had bigger things to focus on.

Sound familiar? I know it does. Your plate is full.

And you know I'm always screaming at you - "Buy it in a set!"

It’s the same idea I come back to for anyone who:

  • Travels a lot for work

  • Touring around Aus or New Zealand in a motorhome

  • Retired (or retiring soon) and wants that minimalist wardrobe.

Or you are someone who just wants to get dressed without the daily stress, and your goal is to create a wardrobe that runs itself.

The secret is in sets.

How To Style Hoodie

Uncategorized Jun 23, 2025

Let’s talk about one of my favourite smart-casual layering tricks that feels effortless but looks oh-so-styled...

The humble hoodie under a blazer or coat.

It’s a little bit cool, a little bit unexpected, and totally wearable when you know how to play with colour.

Here’s where it gets fun.

Take a look at the blazers and coats you already own, pull them out, line them up, and check the colours.

In winter, we often feel at our palest.

The light is softer, the days are duller, and the sun isn't bouncing off everything the way it does in summer, so it’s no wonder we can feel like we've lost a bit of our sparkle too.

That’s why you might find yourself instinctively reaching for brighter colours or interesting prints.

You're craving something to lift your complexion and your mood, and the right colours can do both instantly.

Beyond just colour, what prints do you already have in your wardrobe that you can mix and match in new ways?

Stripes with florals? Checks with animal

How To Layer A Poncho Or A Cape

Uncategorized Jun 19, 2025

It's winter, and it's time to consider coats and other lighter coverings (if you live in warmer climates).

The Driza-Bone (short for "dry as a bone") is a classic Australian icon, originally designed for stockmen and horse riders needing protection from the elements.

I'ts story begins in the late 1800s, when Edward Le Roy, a Scottish immigrant, adapted oilskin coats used by sailors into longer, more practical garments suitable for the harsh Australian outback.

These poncho-type coats were made from heavyweight cotton that was waxed to be wind- and waterproof, perfect for drovers, farmers, and riders braving unpredictable Australian weather.

Traditionally styled:

  • Worn long, often to mid-calf, to protect from rain while on horseback.

  • Cut with shoulder capes and leg straps to keep it in place while riding.

  • Paired with riding boots, a felt hat (like an Akubra), and wool layers underneath for warmth and practicality.

The Driza-Bone is more than just a c...

Wearing Your Best Neutrals

Personal Neutrals: Print Layering Made Easy

Wearing your colours, the ones that actually reflect you, is one of the most flattering things you can do. They’re natural, they put people at ease, and they make you feel like yourself.

These include your eye colour or your best eye enhancement colour (use the eye colour chart I sent you when you signed up for my style tips), then your skin colour, your best light neutral, and your best dark neutral (use your mood boards and coco eBook for these).

That's your core palette, and once you know it, print layering becomes a total art form.

Take this printed knit, for example, it’s been created with every colour type’s eye neutral woven in.

When you wear a print like this, your personal eye colour will be the one that stands out most near your face (because that’s how the eye works , it picks up on its own reflection).

You can level it up even more by layering another one of your best neutrals underneath with a shirt collar or lightwe

The Rule Of Three

Uncategorized Jun 04, 2025

Let’s talk about one of my favourite proportion tricks, the Rule of 3, and how it applies when layering jackets and tops.

If you’re wearing a jacket over a top, the length really matters.

Here’s the simple rule:

Your jacket should either be shorter than your under top
OR
Your top should be tucked in so your jacket becomes the longest layer.

Why?

Because when your top and jacket end at the same spot, it chops your body in half and adds unnecessary bulk, especially side-on.

That 50/50 proportion rarely does us any favours.

But when you follow this rule, you create that flattering 1/3 to 2/3 visual line, either with the jacket as the shorter feature or the longer outer layer.

It instantly elongates your shape and creates harmony in your outfit (yes, please!).

So next time you throw on a jacket, have a quick check in the mirror:

Is your under top hanging just below your jacket? Great.

Or is your top tucked, letting your jacket hang lower? Perfect.

If they’re ending at th

Styling Tips For Vintage Pieces

Uncategorized May 30, 2025

You know how much I love designs from the days of old.

And how much I believe masculine vintage-inspired jackets are a masterpiece.

They carry the wisdom of fashion history on their shoulders, literally.

The old-school designers? They didn’t rush; they crafted.

Their work wasn’t just clothing, it was architecture, storytelling, and art.

That’s why when we reimagine these pieces today, they don’t just work, they wow!

Here are some BOSS styling tips to bring your vintage jackets into the modern world, without losing a drop of their timeless magic.

Mix Eras, Not Just Trends:

Layer it over a 90s-inspired column dress, or pair it back with cool 70s-style flares. A pair of tapered ponte pants from the "00s" or shirt, 1/4 tucked.

Throw in the current coloured street sneakers trend or the chunky platform sole loafers from today.

Vintage jackets love company from other decades, it’s the ultimate way to make the look feel timeless and personal.

Why Is Denim Like Floorboards

Uncategorized May 26, 2025

Denim is Like Floorboards – It Goes with Everything

Just like timber floors in a home, denim forms a neutral, grounding base.

We see it every day, we live in it, we walk over it, we trust it. It’s familiar, functional, and feels like a natural part of life

But here's the kicker: just like floorboards, there are certain shades of denim that you can enhance by using the undertone back with the other items you wear, just like every floorboard shade suits a different coloured couch or rug (LEARN MORE HERE).

Dark, rich denim will feel polished and dramatic, like deep walnut floors in a luxe home.

Light-wash denim feels relaxed and airy, like coastal blonde wood.

But each of the four colour types has certain denims that will work the very hardest in their wardrobe.

So while denim always works, and always works together, the trick is choosing the right tone to suit your wardrobe's overall colour scheme, just like choosing the right floorboard undertone to match your furnishings.

Ponte Fabric And How It Behaves

Uncategorized May 09, 2025

What is Ponte?

Ponte (pronounced pon-tee) is a double-knit fabric, meaning it's made with two layers of fabric knitted together.

It’s usually a blend of rayon, nylon, and spandex, which gives it a magical combination of structure, stretch, and softness.

It’s thicker than your average jersey but softer and stretchier than suiting fabric, so basically, it’s the best of both worlds.

5 Reasons Ponte Pants Should Be in Your Wardrobe:

1. They’re Polished and Comfortable.
Ponte pants look structured and polished like tailored trousers, but they feel as comfortable as leggings. You get that "I look put together" vibe without sacrificing comfort.

2. They Hold Their Shape.
Thanks to the double-knit construction and spandex content, ponte doesn’t sag or bag out at the knees and bum after a few hours of wear. Your pants stay sleek and fresh from morning to night.

3. They’re Ultra-Flattering.
Ponte fabric has enough weight to smooth over lumps and bumps but enough stretch to mo

How To Mix Prints

Uncategorized May 06, 2025

This keeps things visually cohesive even if the designs themselves are different.

For example, in the image below (from 2015!), I'm wearing a striped tee with a watercolour print scarf.

Two very different prints, but the trick is, they both share blush pink and charcoal tones. That colour connection instantly brings harmony.

If you’re feeling a bit braver, play with opposing designs. Stripes vs swirls, geometric vs organic, structured vs fluid.

As long as the colours relate, you can have more freedom with the print.

Even more advanced?

Try pairing enhancing colours (rather than matching ones). That’s where the magic happens.

Like the outfit below of the blazer with gold and denim animal print. None of those colours are in my strong logo tee, but gold enhances black and white print beautifully.

My tee has black and white, which is the ultimate print for Eyes and Vibrants to have in their wardrobes.

This clash becomes deliberate, confident

How To Wear Mixed Metals

Uncategorized Apr 25, 2025

LESSON: Wearing Mixed Metals the Boss Way

Let’s bust a myth right up front:

You absolutely can mix silver, gold, rose gold and everything in between.

And not only can you, but you should, if you want that elevated, modern, “cool without trying too hard” vibe.

But let’s do it the Boss way, with purpose, not panic.

WHY MIXED METALS WORK

When done right, mixing metals adds:

  • Depth to your outfit (makes simple outfits look styled)

  • Effortlessness (you don’t look like you tried too hard)

  • Modernity (feels current, not matchy-matchy)

It's one of the easiest ways to upgrade a basic outfit without adding layers or fuss.

START WITH A DOMINANT METAL

Pick one to be your lead, usually the one that complements your Boss Colour Type best.

✨ Warm Bosses? Silver or white gold is your best friend.
❄️ Cool Bosses? Gold contrasts on you.
🌹 Hair colour type or Romantic personality? Rose gold is your secret sauce.
🎭 Theatrical or Creative? Try blackened silver or oxidise
