It sure has been busy around the Make It Look Easy headquarters as we get ready for Spring.
Make sure that you keep your Spring list that I sent you all last week handy as you watch the new trends filter into stores.
If, at anytime, you are unsure of what top to wear with a pair of print shorts or pants, just chuck on a chambray shirt, it works with everything.
Light, dark, colour and a print.
You hear me say it all of the time but did you realise that some prints are more light and some actually work as dark?
Let me show you what I mean.
Notice how I am wearing dark pants with all 3 of my light print shoes and medium to light bottoms (and bare legs) with my dark print shoes.
The key is to always contrast your last hem length to create a frame for your entire outfit.
If you really only want one print shoe in your life, try to find one with an equal dose of both light and dark for ease of balance with every kind of bottoms you own.
I have made you a short video which will show you how it all works along with a few other tips I kind of threw in (you know I can never help but give you more)
Now, I have been asked to give you some guidance on how to wear prints that don't really suit you.
Yes! it can be done!
This question has been asked by someone who has been following along for a long time and knows that she suits 'creative' prints like aztec, indigenous (can't believe I spelt that one right straight off the bat) oriental, ornamental (or those two either), paisley, home made, embroidered (that one was spell checked) and hand dyed prints, so basically anything that you would find as a traveler or source from a gorgeous street market.
Even though Hayley suits those creative prints the very best, she would also like to dip her toe into the other kind of colour type prints too (it is so nice to have a change and mix things up a bit).
So Hayley (and anyone else who suits the creative colour type prints), you can in fact wear other prints as long as they are in your most awesome colours.
Make sure you look for them in spicy rich exotic florals, gold foiled stripes, and hey...
Creating the perfect wardrobe sucks - it really is a lot of hard work.
We sabotage ourselves daily by continually adding items just because they were on sale, in front of us when we needed a bit of a pick me up, or were given to us as a gift.
How great would it be if we could teach the younger generation not to do this to themselves and to just get on with living, loving and using their money to travel rather than throwing it all away in their wardrobes?
What a huge waste of money, hey! And what a crazy waste of clothing real estate space.
My generation grew up thinking the bigger the wardrobe the better. But if that was really true, I wouldn't have a thriving Business teaching people to do just the opposite.
Did you know that there are four skin colours? PINK, PEACH, ORANGE and BLUE.
I have cool pink skin, am a Hair colour type and suit low contrast dressing.
Our youngest daughter has warm skin, is a vibrant colour type and suits all contrasts.
When we visited New York, I bought myself a...
Over time you begin to see certain patterns emerging in your wardrobe, your outfits and your shopping choices.
Seeing that my wardrobe consists of blue (contrasts my pink skin), green (my eye colour) and pink (my skin colour) plus off white and charcoal as my neutrals, it makes sense that my most highlighted scarf colour would involve red.
I also equal the amount of red scarves I own to how many I own in blue but my red scarves create the most impact against my cool toned clothes.
Red loves to be worn with both blue and green as well as neutral tones which lets red do all of the work so it makes sense that red scarves in my wardrobe are a must.
Have you ever had a real hard look at the colours that mainly make up your wardrobe and which one colour that you don't own could create an impact in a scarf?
Learning what colours work best together without repeating the same colour makes your outfit really pop.

Now I don't wear thongs very often, I am much more of a "shoe" person but I do know that a lot of you just live in thongs (flip flops, jandals...etc.)
When I do wear thongs it is because I am going down to the beach, walking around (someone else's) swimming pool or watering the garden.
I don't want them to be a feature that frames my outfit, I want them to not actually mess too much with what I am wearing at all.
So I always go for a natural metal of gold so that they disappear against my gloriously tanned legs (well for 3 months of the year at least).
You could also go a silver if you are rocking a tan as it gives a slight contrast against the more orangey colour that a natural tan gives.
But if you don't tan at all and like to stay right out of the Sun, I suggest going for a dark brown or black so as to add a good dose of mascara for interest (eye focus away for the pale legs).
I explain more about that in this video:

Right now, I want to get you ready for "the shorter" jeans trend.
These guys are going to come edged nicely, pre-cuffed or sliced and frayed.
Now don't panic and think that you won't be able to wear them during Winter, you still can.
Just invest in a boot that comes a little higher up your leg to meet the hem of your jeans.
They really are not as scary as they first seem and I have a feeling that they may even grow on you (or grow shorter on you...he he he).

The more you see the shorter jeans, the more you will get used to them (I promise) and just fantastic news for us shorties too!

The eBook that gives you the best colour pairings you’ve never thought possible - "Brilliant Colour Combinations".
I would like to talk about the effect of not repeating a colour in an outfit and see if the samples below here help bring it home for you too.
Here we go.
These photos below were taken only 2 years apart from each other. The one on the left was when I was using my Light, Dark, Colour and a Print system (which is a super awesome system) and I was framing my light dress with a dark shoe But...
I was repeating the colour in my scarf back down again in my shoe giving you two places to look at, at one time instead of allowing you to just look around and enjoy my entire outfit.
Having the whole ensemble on the right below not repeat a colour gives your eyes a chance to look around and then see me rather than struggling to flip back and forward on the repeating colour (first outfit) which actually compacts the whole outfit (and me).
I did show a few more examples and wrote a little spill about this some more in my FREE CLOSED FACEBOOK GROUP of...
I thought that it was time that I spilled the beans and showed you a little more of myself behind the scenes, (well in my actual bedroom in fact) as we take a look at my bling.
The key to having the best accessory collection is knowing when to cull the crap stuff that is getting in the way of seeing the really great stuff.
There is a bit of a knack to wearing big earrings without your whole ensemble looking kind of, well "messy".
The key is to leave as much space under the earrings as possible, meaning - show a lot more skin.
Low neck tops, off the shoulder and strapless are just perfect for clearing enough space for your "big" earrings to take pride of place.
Statement earrings also work best with your personal proportions if they sit just at or above your chin height from your ear down.
You can watch this video about statement earrings to learn even more.

My biggest tip for going out this weekend is that you don't run yourself ragged by heading to the shops right now or tomorrow morning just to grab something new that no-one has seen you in before.
And stop looking at what she is wearing and think that it will be okay on you too! That really has a lot to do with how we have got ourselves into this mess in the first place.
There really is no-one else just like you - never exactly. You will never find someone just like you.
If you spent years shopping on your own advice that suited you perfectly, you would actually own an island by now.
It is far better to wear the same amazing outfit (or one item and change it up with other items you already own), that you feel great in, over and over again than it is to been in something new just for a point of difference.
It is when we feel unsure, feel out of the loop and feel desperate for anything due to a time frame that we walk home with "whatever" but we really should know better.
